School Staff Presentations
Many of the presentations I have created over the years are on request. Presentations can range from 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on the topic. It is important presentations are purposeful, have strong take-aways, prompt educational staff or parents to reflect on their lives and have an element of personal connection. The research used in my presentations are clearly sited, however, I believe experience speaks volumes. I have worked in various school demographics, met with thousands of families, and have learned through failure and success. Many of the solutions to our wonderings in our job come from the understanding of our context and applying current stats to our situations. For example, we may have a bias towards technology due to our lived experience and what we have read on social media, however, when we stack that up against real research with hundreds of thousands of people, you need to be open minded that our personal solutions may not be what is needed for the context of where you work.

Parent Sessions
Understanding Mental Health and Your Child (With Dr. Stewart-Smith, CMHA Post-Secondary Masters of Health Promotion) (2 hour presentation)
This presentation is designed as a baseline for firstly understanding the current stats of mental health and secondly how parents can support their child. Dr. Smith speaks to the medical understanding of neuroscience and I speak to the practical understandings in a school and at home. This presentation is bound to have parents leaving evaluating their interactions with their child.
How Can I Help My Succeed at School
This presentation is specifically geared towards assisting parents in how to support their child in meaningful ways for learning. We have various parent intereactions with our kids, those who are not involved enough, those who are too involved, those who put on too much pressure, those who do the work for them, and those who simply leave it to the educators. Where is the balance?
My Child is No Longer the Child I Know? (Attachment Theory) (60min - 120min)
Dr. Gordon Neufeld has done some incredible work on attachment theory and understanding why children detach from the parent information. This presentation talks about the very real issue of teens who gravitate to peers for life direction rather than the parent. This is not about our ability to parent, but more about understanding what might be occurring in your child.
